Australiana revisits Emma’s childhood when the ‘kitsch’ of Australiana was at its height, the 80’s. Plates with souvenir birds and flora painted on, displayed on a shelf, tea towels and crockery. As a follow on from her oriental inspired collection, ‘Chinoiserie’, Emma revisits her love of Australian Flora and Fauna, first touched on in ‘Native Mandala’ (2009). Motifs, patterns and butterflies cluster together in a pattern collision of calmness and beauty that Emma is well-known for.
The beauty of the amazing birds and flora of this country should be embraced and nurtured, a reminder of the environment, to look after it is a constant in Emma’s collections, where her muse merges within her environment, at one with her surrounds.
